Durlon® 8900: Flexible Material for High Temp Applications

Superheated Steam, Hydrocarbons, and More: The Versatile Durlon® 8900 Gasket Material

At Gasket Resources Inc. (GRI), our commitment to innovation in fluid sealing solutions drives everything we do. Through continuous customer feedback, a team of highly skilled technicians and engineers, and participation in industry events, we strive to meet and exceed industry standards.

Introducing Durlon® 8900 Gasket Material

GRI is proud to present the Durlon® 8900 gasket material, developed to tackle some of the most challenging industrial applications. The Durlon® 8900 is a premium-grade, compressed non-asbestos sheet specifically designed for high-temperature conditions. It’s perfectly suited for environments involving saturated and superheated steam, oil, dilute acids and alkalis, hydrocarbons, solvents, and refrigerants.

With a maximum service temperature of 925°F and continuous operating temperatures from -40°F to 752°F, the Durlon® 8900 gasket material is ideal for demanding applications up to 2000 psi. This gasket also includes a proprietary anti-stick coating, ensuring improved installation and easy removal, even in harsh, high-temperature conditions where flange surfaces might be imperfect or where gasket disintegration is a concern.

Engineered for High-Performance in Extreme Conditions

The Durlon® 8900 was rigorously tested for over a year in superheated steam turbines within boiler house applications, where the boiler pressure was at 400 psig with 725°F superheated steam. Following these successful tests, the use of Durlon® 8900 expanded across other steam turbine applications and hot air dryers operating at 165 psig superheated steam at 600°F. These conditions previously challenged all other gasket materials, but the Durlon® 8900 has proven itself as a reliable solution.

The exceptional performance of Durlon® 8900 is attributed to its composition—an aramid/inorganic fiber system with a very low binder content and a graphite filler, combined with an NBR rubber binder. The material demonstrates minimal stress relaxation, with only 10% relaxation after 16 hours at 347°F and 17% relaxation after 16 hours at 572°F, ensuring long-term stability and durability under pressure.

Handling Superheated Steam with Confidence

Superheated steam is often a challenging environment for gasket materials due to its high temperature and dry nature, which limits the use of many conventional materials such as PTFE. Durlon® 8900 addresses this challenge head-on. Its design provides the needed resilience and resistance in high-temperature and high-pressure applications where other materials like flexible graphite or semi-metallic gaskets may not suffice, especially in equipment requiring specialized gasket configurations.

Certifications and Compliance

Durlon® 8900 is certified to meet the ANSI/API 607 Fire Test 6th Edition with zero leakage, and it complies with RoHS Reach declarations. With a compressibility of 7-17%, a recovery rate of 50%, and a nitrogen sealability rate of 0.2 cc/min, this gasket material is engineered to deliver exceptional performance across various industries, including chemical processing, food and beverage, petrochemical refining, oil and gas, mining, water and wastewater management, and general industries.
